A Systematic Literature Review on Air-Rail Integration

Summary - As global transport systems evolve, airrail integration has become essential for enhancing multimodal connectivity and optimising passenger experience.
This study conducts a systematic literature review of 27 peer-reviewed studies (2015–2025) to assess how integration influences passenger behaviour, connectivity, and system efficiency. Findings indicate that coordinated schedules, unified ticketing, and co-located terminals significantly improve passenger satisfaction and operational flow. Four themes were identified: passenger behaviour, flow dynamics, modal preference drivers, and transfer challenges. Persistent issues include poor baggage handling and limited real-time information systems. The review highlights the need for an AI-driven evaluation tool to guide more inclusive and sustainable multimodal transport planning.
