Management of post-earthquake verifications for railway infrastructures

Summary - In case of an earthquake, bridges are considered the most vulnerable elements of a railway network, taking account of the fact that most of them have been designed when specific earthquake-resistant standards were still not in force. Damage to these structures can cause considerable inconveniences to the railway circulation, hence this study has addressed the issue of optimisation of procedures for post-seismic event inspection with the aim of achieving a reduction of time needed to check the conditions of the artwork and the consequent minimisation of inconveniences resulting from the lines out of service. The final part of the work shows a hypothetical case study where the procedure has been applied.
