Development of a procedure for reduced finite-element models validation

During the process of integration of a

flexible body into a multi-body system, the reduction of

the finite-element model of the component used in the design

stage for detailed stress analyses is a very critical

step. For this reason, a validation process of the reduced

model has been conceived, developed and implemented

on the basis of an analytical procedure. Such procedure

ensures complete control on the finite-element model reduction,

in order to optimize the reduction technique applied

and, at the same time, to quantify the level of correlation

between the reduced model and the original one.

The validation procedure has been developed with the

software DMAP (Direct Matrix Abstraction Program) by

MSC NASTRAN, in combination with the more popular

high-level programming language of the “user-friendly”

software MATLAB (ref. [6]).
