The Roma Nord, from the electric tramway to the regional railway

Summary - Since 1913 a railway track runs from Rome to Viterbo, through Civita Castellana; this railway – commonly called «Roma Nord» – born as a narrow-gauge tramway and then transformed into a standard gauge line has seen throughout its years of service a gradual change of the users, together with the growth of quarters at the north suburbs of Rome. Nowadays, twenty-one EMUs provide the service on the 102 km of track, that however need important investments for substructure, workshops and rolling stock modernization.
