Results of a heuristic model to evaluate perceived quality of railway travels

Summary - The aim of this research is to identify the relationships and decisive variables linking service im- provement and demand generated in the field of regional railway services. The results obtained show that the effec- tive variables are not only those relating to the intrinsic quality of the railway service (frequency, journey times and quality of rolling stock), historically used in literature and in operational practice for the evaluation of modal distribu- tion, but that they should also take into account the attrac- tiveness of the railway interchange areas for the vehicle plug-in recharging stations offer (hybrids and FEV) shar- ing services and ancillary services to facilitate modal inter- change. Research has subsequently developed a specific methodology to assess the importance of these variables for the study of modal choice with reference to regional rail transport services.
